Is Parkour Right for Your Child? What Beginners Can Expect
Parkour is more than jumping over obstacles. Find out how to decide whether a beginner class is a good fit.

A child who loves climbing or finding a new route through the playground may be curious about parkour. In a coached class, the interesting question is not how high they can jump. It is how they learn to judge a movement, try it with control and build on it gradually.
Start with the basics
Beginner parkour involves skills such as jumping, landing, balancing and moving around obstacles. Good progress can look like a more confident landing or making a careful choice about an obstacle—not a dramatic trick. Encourage your child to work at a level that feels manageable and to follow the coach's instructions.
Talk to your child about trying something new
Some children like a quick demonstration; others prefer to watch briefly before joining in. Both responses are normal. Ask what they found fun, what was tricky and what they might like to practise next time. Avoid comparing their first attempt with another child's experience.
Check the current class before you go
ProActiv's Hong Kong parkour programme is based at ProGym Cyberport. Read the current age guidance, class times and trial options on the programme page before booking; these may change between terms. If you are uncertain whether the class fits your child, contact the team and describe their age and experience.
